I've been playing around with how to create new designs when I don't have a clean hand to henna. I didn't realize just how different doing henna on paper would be to real, three diminutional hand. The dye bled considerably on the plain white paper. I think I'll try card stock or thick art paper next. Luckily I snapped a photo before the paste all fell off.
This is a new hand or bridal mehndi design I did this week.

I wanted to share a bridal henna design this weekend. I did an intricate two tone jagua-henna design. The base outline was with jagua and the fill and shading was done with henna. I retuned the next day to do mehndi for the family and friends of the bride and groom at a pre-wedding ceremony/party. I was lucky enough to see the brides henna and it looked amazing! The jagua on the hands and feet created the most intense black stain, and the contrast with the henna created a dimentional piece of art.
I can't wait to see the photos from the wedding day. Thank you Susan Landes for inviting me to be a part of your DBT group therapy. As a part of her DBT groups, Susan helps members learn about mindfulness. The art of henna and the experience of having a design drawn on your skin brings the individual into the here and now moment. Waiting for the paste to stain the skin and the design to develop it color requires patience. This ancient art has always brought me peace and joy, and I am thankful I was given the opportunity to share it with the group that evening.
You can find more information about Susan Landes, PsyD, MFT at her Website. Thank you Arlene for the opportunity to participate in the celebration of new life with you and your friends! I am always honored and excited when a mother to be invites me to be a part of something so special.
Congratulations to Brian, Arlene and baby Seone. I recently had the pleasure of working with Living Social Adventures as the henna artist for their Night in Morocco event at Casa Blanca restaurant. A big thank you to the Living Social team, they were a pleasure to be around and so very easy going. They really are all about having a good time! Take a peak at their up-coming adventures.
The owner of Casa Blanca, Morit, has a wonderful sense of humor and his hospitality is unsurpassed. They are truly committed to helping others and have taught me a lot about the tradition of henna in Morocco. I have had the please of eating there myself in the past and I highly recommend this place for a wonderfully unique night of dining. |
